Mechatronics Laboratory
Mechatronics is a design philosophy that utilizes a synergistic
integration of Mechanics, Electronics and Computer Technology (or
Information Technology)
to produce enhanced products, processes or systems. Mechatronics is the
most important basis for future advanced product development for the
manufacturing industries and the trans-disciplinary engineer can look
forward to a high quality of job satisfaction with enhanced employment
prospects. Mechatronics has been identified as an area of major skills
shortage (Japanese industrialists have identified an acute shortage of
suitably qualified and trained Engineers, even though they are arguably
leading in this field.). The UK Engineering & Physical Sciences Research
Council (EPSRC) has identified Mechatronics as an emergent core technology
providing the skills necessary for the successful industry of the next
millennium. The mechatronics laboratory in University of Macau was
established by Prof. Yangmin Li in order to
cultivate eligible engineer for the development of high technology
industry in Macau.
Following experimental facilities have been provided in the Mechatronics
Lab:
1. A six DOF Modular robot with its control system bought from AMTEC
company of Germany.

2. The Computer Vibration Monitoring and Analyzing Simulation System
developed with Tsinghua University.
3. Robot Soccer Competition System bought from a Yujin Robotics
company in South Korea.

4. Two mobile manipulators developed by University of Macau
5. One vision guided mobile robot developed by University of Macau
6. One manipulator developed by University of Macau.
7. Some Programmable Logic Controllers(PLC), microcontrollers,
sensors, computers and Sun Workstation.
The following experiment can be made for corresponding courses:
Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Control Techniques, Introduction to
Robotics, Advanced Robotics and Control.
This laboratory can also provide a location of research for Master student
and undergraduate student doing final year project.
